After being greeted by the friendly staff, I pulled up a seat near the front windows, where the sunlight cascaded across my table in the same way I think it would had I been dining in Italy somewhere. To get even more poetic, I struck up a conversation with the owner/head chef Oscar, who told me he learned how to cook from his Italian-born father. "I carry on the tradition here," he said. And he means it. Just like in the old country, everything at Sapore is made from scratch, from the pasta to the perfectly thin and crispy pizza dough to even the mozzarella cheese in my La Caprese and Prosciutto salad, which by the way, is as big as a meal. Next up was a plate of Chicken Piccata. The tender chicken made a great vehicle with which to make sure all the garlicky white wine lemon sauce made it to my mouth. Real simple Italian = real happy taste buds. Next time? I can't wait to try the pizza, which the customers next to me said was the best in Alexandria.
